Monthly Curriculum

From: JoAnn Hyde, president

May 8 marks the end of our ikebana year, with classes resuming October 9. It’s been a year that saw significant growth in both membership and our students’ skills. We also had a delightful workshop with guest teacher Satsuki Palter and participated in three ikebana shows. Thank you for your regular attendance and enthusiasm.

The Gardens will be moving its classes in the educational building to Porter Hall while it reconfigures its entrance and gift shop. Please meet us at Porter Hall, next to our regular classroom. We will have a business meeting between the morning and afternoon sessions. The nominating committee will recommend officers for the next two years, and we will celebrate with cake at the end of the meeting, around 12:30. We hope you will join us for one or both. Gourmet Girls makes a delicious vegan, gluten-free cake!

We like to end each year with something different, so we will teach variations of Radial for everyone. If you are at the introductory level, you have the option of doing Hana Isho Inclining for credit or Radial. If you have not done Hana Isho Inclining or have only done it once, we recommend you do that instead. JoAnn would like advanced students to bring one branch of their own to “customize” their arrangement.

Please let me know whether or not you will be attending class Thursday by responding to this email now so we can plan according. Introductory students, please let me know if you will be doing Radial or Hana Isho Inclining.

In addition to the vases and kenzan listed below, be sure to bring your regular supplies: scissors, a grocery bag to dispose of extra material, a towel, a container for water, and a bucket to bring your flowers home. New students, please review the information under “Classes” on our website: https://azikebana.org.

Photos of the various vases are on our website: https://azikebana.org/816-2/.
